El Calafate is a town in southern Patagonia in Argentina. It is situated on the southern shore of Lake Argentino, in the south-western province of Santa Cruz. Its name comes from a small shrub with yellow flowers very common in Patagonia, with dark blue berries: the calafate (Berberis buxifolia) is a term borrowed from the language Tehuelche.

El Calafate is an important tourist destination, being the starting point for visits to several points of interest in the Los Glaciares National Park, including the Perito Moreno Glacier (one of the most visited in the world), the Cerro Chalten and the Cerro Torre.
