City — Pashupatinath — Swayambhunath — Bodnath
is the largest city of Nepal, is situated in the valley of central Nepal, and is surrounded by the rivers Bagmati ( river sacred to Hindus ) and Vishnumati . These two rivers delineate substantially the urban area itself .
The urban center of the city has a core mostly dating back to the seventeenth century ( late Malla era ), which is develops in the neighborhood of the famous Durbar Square , full of Hindu temples . Several other shrines are isolated from each other at many intersections , so that in the city are concentrated , as indeed in the whole valley , hundreds of Hindu temples ; among these the best known is that of Pashupatinath , on the banks of the sacred Bagmati River in the vast area which are , mostly aligned on the right bank of the river , numerous altars acts to pyres for cremation of corpses. There are also many Buddhist holy sites such as the famous Swayambhunath (also known as the Monkey Temple ) located on a hill west of the city ; and to Bodnath in the eastern suburbs which owns a large Tibetan community escaped the persecution in China. It is no coincidence , therefore, that in these places there is the highest concentration of religious buildings in the world.
