Designed by the Uruguayan Rafael Vinoly, the building, which was completed in 1996, is located in the Marunouchi central area close to the park of the Imperial Palace. The project involved the construction of a complex of three auditoriums (one with a capacity of 5,000) and an exhibition hall with ancillary services, over an underground station.
The Forum is physically consists of two buildings of different shapes and materials, separated by a public urban space: on one side, leaning against the beam of the tracks of the Japan Railways, a large glass atrium 63 meters high and 210 meters long, leaf-shaped, designed to host events and in front of a white cubic structure with four large rooms (the largest has a capacity of 5012 seats).
A leafy courtyard separates the two buildings, while the passage is secured to the upper levels by a series of overhead walkways of glass.
In the forum there are many shops, cafes and restaurants.
