Ryogoku Kokugikan (両 国 国 技 馆). Stadium and Temple of SUMO sport most loved by the Japanese, is the largest arena of sumo in Japan, with a capacity of 10,000 spectators, this is where grand tournaments or basho are held in January, May and September. These tournaments are filled with ceremony and ritual which observe strict hierarchies not just for the wrestlers, but also for the referees and callers. The competition each day begins around 9:00 AM with the amateurs, and from there, wresters compete in progressing order of seniority.
