Journey made for pure entertainment of the heart and mind. SAS Flight Rome Stockholm, three days to visit Stockholm, with its beautiful Old Town, The Royal Palace with the changing of the guard ceremony (very impressive), its canals, City Hall, the archipelago with the royal residence of Drottingholm, its churches. Jack the car part to the north along the Gulf of Bothnia, a stop to visit the Cathedral of Uppsala and then the first step in Sundsvall. Then we went to Skelleftea passing the Bijuroklubb’s lighthouse.
The next day we went to Rovaniemi where we stayed two nights, a must visit to Napapiiri (Arctic Circle) and the home of Santa Claus. We also visited the beautiful Arktikum museum that collects customs and traditions of the Sami people. Before leaving we went on deck Jätkänkynttilä with the eternal flame above the river Kemijoki to enjoy the midnight sun.
We have continued towards north and then we stop in Inari, where we stayed at the hotel Inari Kultahovi in a room with private sauna, we had also visited the Ethnographic Museum of the Sami SIIDA.
Our journey then was continued towards Nordkapp between expanses of tumturi (the hills from which comes the name of the tundra) between the wild reindeer herds, lakes and rivers, forest thinning pine and birch.
A stop of two nights in a Honnigsvag’s hostel with a large common room and shared bathrooms and showers and breakfast… it was our base for visiting the island of Magerøya and North Cape with its huge tourist center. Photo of ritual under the large globe, freezing cold (eh eh eh) breathtaking views and nature at will.
Then we take the road to return to the south, we are aiming towards the town of Alta planning a short stay in Hammerfest. in Alta we had the pleasure of visiting the museum that allows to reach and view a series of prehistoric rock art sites with petroglyphs spanning a reasonable period of time from 5000 to 500 BC.
Leaving the city we came back to Sweden to reach the small town of Gallivare where we stayed one night before heading for the city of Vilhelmina, passing through the town of Jokkmokk where we found Sami products of excellent quality.
From Vilhelmina we headed to the town of Ostersund that is holiday destination for Swedes.
Two-day stop in Karlstad lovely city on the delta of the river Klarälven, the longest in Sweden, liveable, green and full of color, bicycle lanes and medieval ruins.
Last stop, the city of Gothenburg where we stayed at a hotel complex (Nya Varvet) made from port warehouses with the realization of individual studios with kitchen and sitting area.
The city is very beautiful on a human scale with highly efficient transport system of public bicycles Styr & Stall with numerous car parks in exchange. Very nice to the fish market, the old town and city parks.
