The Nitmiluk park includes the spectacular Katherine Gorge, a series of 13 sandstone gorges carved during a billion years from the River Katharine. You can explore the impressive walls of the gorge and its white sandy beaches on foot, by canoe or boat. Formerly known as Katharine Gorge National Park, the park was returned to Aboriginal people and renamed Nitmiluk which means “place of the cicadas.” The park is operated by the government of the Northern Territory and the Jawoyn people, according to the traditions of the law Jawoyn. The Aboriginal culture is strong in the area and there are many sites in the park that have Aboriginal rock art. It is a paradise for nature lovers, with its wild landscapes, its beautiful waterfalls and gorges full of vegetation that protect various species of flora and fauna
