We leave in the early morning and take the HW 3 towards south, bucolic landscapes with cows and sheep at will, trees, rivers and beautiful beaches. The first stop is at the Kiwi House in Otorohanga, where we can see, awake and active, a Kiwi bird as well as numerous species of local birds including the Pukeko. We continue south and before arriving in New Plymouth we make a stop to visit the three sisters beach where which at low tide makes its cliffs and pinnacles take on spectacular shapes.
We resume driving to New Plymouth where we stay overnight at the foot of Mount Edgemont
