Departure from Queenstown as soon as the sun has begun to peek through the mountains, we spent a good half hour to defrost the car, (-5 °) then proceed with caution towards Te Anau, a town on the shore of the, same name, lake. Road in excellent condition, between valleys and very suggestive snowy hills. Arriving by the lake and found the motel, we ask for and get the room, beautiful and fully equipped, kitchen, TV with SKY etc.
We ask to book the cruise on the Doubtful Sound for the next day and once we have obtained the voucher we dedicate ourselves to take a tour of the city… by bike kindly offered by the Motel.
We cross the lakefront several times, photographing seaplanes and helicopters that take off and land continuously. We shop to prepare tomorrow’s packed lunch. Dinner based on savory meat pies and a fresh salad. Tomorrow morning we go to Lake Manapouri.
