We leave Fresno and head towards Los Angeles, instead of taking the last miles of the 66, that passes through the streets of the city and decide to go towards the Pacific, reaching the beautiful town of Ventura where we stop to sleep. The next day, in the late afternoon, we have the flight to Kona on the island of Hawaii, so we head lazily to Los Angeles, we pass by the famous Malibu beach, we dedicate the remaining time to visit Santa Monica with its famous Pier and his Ferris wheel that has appeared many many times in Hollywood movies.
We take some pictures and above all we go to see and touch the Route 66 end sign. Memorabilia shops, fridge magnets, flags and flags, plaques and tags. In short, we spend a beautiful morning under the Californian sun walking far and wide, flanked by the beautiful beach of golden sand.
A wonderful experience, driving calmly on the Main Route, discovering the old tracks where they are still able to be traveled on or along the freeway that has taken their place, many places have been frozen in the sixties, others have used history to recycle themselves as museums or gadget shops . A good sponsor, needless to say, was the Pixar’s film “Cars” which highlighted its abandonment but also the desire to rediscover this American icon.
