Hearty breakfast and after careful dressing for the cold day we are going to meet, we wait for the bus that will take us to Lake Manapouri from where the cruise on the Doubtful Sound (one of the largest fjords in the New Zealand Fiordland) begins.

First stretch by bus to Lake Manapouri where we find the boat that will take us on the second stretch, a vast arm of the lake. Upon arrival another bus awaits us which, through a winding dirt and icy path, a mountain pass and a breathtaking descent, take us to Deep Cove on the Doubtful Fjord.

Beautiful and exciting three hour cruise with nature in abundance, Dolphins, seals, seagulls, ice, cold, sun.

photos, photos, photos.

Before returning to the bus to Manapouri we visited the underground electric production plant in Manapouri which, by exploiting the gravity on the lake water, produces almost 16% of New Zealand’s power needs.

Boat to the village and then bus to Te Anau in the middle of a dense fog.

Dinner and, dead of fatigue for a beautiful day, we fall asleep, tomorrow we go to Invercargill.
